A Message from your President

The elections are now behind us and your new board of trustees is in place.  I feel very good and excited about our group. They are eager to go to work and continue improving the club for the benefit of all of us.  We have survived the last three years that were very trying and a real challenge.  At one point, when Avemco dropped our insurance coverage I was concerned if there would even be a Dayton Pilots Club.  We have come a long way since then and as outlined in Dave Roberts’ December 2003 newsletter article, State of DPC, we have managed to make some very positive changes that will benefit the club well into the future.

Now we can concentrate on upgrading and improving the fleet.  This can be done by improving current aircraft and or trading up to newer models with less time and better features (and hopefully less maintenance cost).  Soon you will receive a questionnaire asking what you, the membership, want in the fleet.  This will help the trustees decide how to move forward.  After all, this is your club.  Additionally, we will try to increase the number of social functions to bring about more of a club feeling rather than just a place to rent planes cheaply.  I’m hopeful there are enough volunteers to make the 2nd Annual DPC Poker Run a reality.  Those of us that participated last year had a great time and the club received some good publicity.  Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the plane wash scheduled for Saturday the 17th of April.  Also be sure to remember the hangar and lock box combinations will change that day as well.

From the Editor

As a new member of the Board I can add my congratulations to that voiced by many other members on the work of the previous board.  They created a focus on safety and fiscal responsibility that has made DPC a good “deal” for people who like to fly.  As Greg points out, it is important to build on that base, not rest on it.  Whether it is fleet improvements or social events I look forward to working with you this year to make flying more interesting, efficient, and frequent as well as safe for all of us.

Plane Wash

The spring plane wash is scheduled for Saturday April 17th starting at 9am.  Clem Gilliland is organizing our semiannual event.  Join club members for some free food, socializing, and oh yeah, to spruce-up the fleet.
