The Treasurer’s Update
By Mike Nolan It was a dark and stormy night; it was a
story that had to be told. Well, not exactly, but, I did promise to describe
what is happening with the office of the treasurer for this news letter. I
assumed the office after the elections for this up-coming year. No one could
have described how involved this position is and yet, due to the efforts of Dave
Roberts, who For background, I am a Captain with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, married with two grown daughters. I received my pilot’s certificate in the mid 70’s. As most pilots who eventually have children, I began drifting from flying to pay for dance lessons, etc. With the support of my wife, Bonnie, I renewed my interest and updated my certification in 2002 and joined the club in 2003. I am honored to represent the membership and have made many new friends and rely on all of you for advice in my endeavor. My goal (mission statement) is to keep the records current while delivering the best service in a most cost effective way possible without sacrificing safety as well as being member friendly. The treasurer’s job requires about 10-15 hours a month to keep the books updated and also requires three (3) trips weekly to the post office to obtain the latest bills and payments. I have found that occasionally I have made mistakes in entries as I have learned the system. The membership has been helpful in pointing out possible errors and allowing me to investigate and correct problems where needed. I appreciate this greatly! Never feel that you are burdening me with questions and I will attempt to get you speedy answers when possible. There are some tips I would like to give members in this article which might answer some questions about billing of accounts. First of all the monthly dues are billed one month in advance. Flying is bill from the tach sheets, prepared by Tom Dow, who collects and itemizes the flying time in a format that is easily understood and user friendly. He does a great job of helping in this area and I really appreciate his efforts. I will be starting to assess the “Failure to Cancel” charges on the May flying and encourage all members to keep Schedule Master updated well in advance so others might have an opportunity to fly when you discover you will not be taking a trip or local flight. If for some reason you are unable to get into Schedule Master to cancel, generate a report/e-mail to Kevin Chandler, (Kevin.Chandler@daytonrcs.com) and to me so we can correct the records quickly. I make every attempt to update the payments prior to printing the monthly statements. Continued next page |
